Recently on the Twinfo Facebook page we were discussing nicknames for twins and triplets. There were so many great replies that I decided to share them with you.
There were certainly some common themes.
The classic Twin A and Twin B or Baby A, Baby B and Baby C were an obvious forefront runner. However, did you know that there is a medical reason for this?

Identical twins were definitely not on our radar when I fell pregnant in October 2016.
My obstetrician, who I had with my daughter was very relaxed about the whole situation and sent me to find out the type. Who knew! Different types of twins!
At 9 weeks we found our babies were monochrionic di amniotic, layman’s terms. Shared a placenta. Different sacs. Middle of the range risk.

On the 21st of November 2016, I decided to take the “risky” test. I hadn’t felt great for a couple of days. Feeling extra tired which I have only felt once before in my life… I was pregnant then. I couldn’t feel my period coming which was due to start the next day. My positive very quickly showed. Only weeks beforehand we booked our wedding venue and date. Two months prior we had only celebrated out eldest child’s first birthday; it all seemed a bit sudden.
I was scared to tell my now husband. A pregnancy was not what we had planned yet. I booked my doctor’s appointment and got my bloods done while he was at work. The doctor had told me that the test was accurate and I was pregnant. When Josh finally arrived home my eldest child and I told him. At first it was shock then we just laughed.

Roughly 4 years ago my periods became erratic, sometimes not having one for 4 or 5 months. My doctor sent me off for blood tests, hormone levels, and an ultrasound and at the end of all that he diagnosed me with early onset menopause at the age of 37. This didn’t bother me greatly as I was single and had 2 children already, so the concept of not having any more children was not of concern to me.

As we stare at our 11 month old twin gals, we say to each other “Twins?” or “Our twins?” as we still cannot believe that we have been blessed with such amazing little people.
The past 1.5yrs seems like a massive dream. However this dream has been a journey from having gestational diabetes, having twins at 34.5 weeks, being admitted to hospital at 30.5 weeks and spending 4 weeks there and gals spending the first 4 weeks of their life in special care!

After that day at the hospital, Ross didn’t feel comfortable leaving me in NSW while he started his course because the nearest ‘real’ hospital with a birthing suite and obstetrician was over an hour away. So, over the next few days he moved all our belongings back into storage, loaded up the trailer and the dog, and we drove back to Victoria. My mother and her husband lived much closer to a big university hospital, so I went to stay with them while Ross went off to Tassie to start his training. If all went according to plan, when Ross finished his course he would come back to Victoria for the birth, we’d spend a few weeks learning the ropes of parenthood with family around to help, then we would all head over to Tassie together and start our amazing new life.
It sounded perfect in theory.

Apart from being super sick, my pregnancy in the beginning was fairly uneventful, as I imagined a pregnancy should be. Until at 16 weeks, I started bleeding. It was a normal day at work, but feeling strangely wet, I rushed off to the bathroom – there was so much blood. Panic instantly consumed me, and my heart was breaking for my babies, was I losing them? Oh God not my beautiful babies, were they already gone? I didn’t see how there could be this much blood if that weren’t the case, but I also couldn’t believe they were gone. I had pictured us together, I was going to hold them and name them and live happily ever after… they were meant to live… this wasn’t supposed to happen.

Twins… two babies, at the same time! My whole body was buzzing with the excitement of it. It was like every hair on my body was tingling and I was so bummed that I had to wait seven and a half months before I could meet them. Of course, I would have been incredibly excited to be having one baby, but to be given TWO, the excitement was genuinely like we had won Tattslotto – I knew the odds were probably about the same and never in a million years could I have imagined that it would happen to us. The news might have been amazing but unfortunately my pregnancy was not. It was horrible. Seriously – it was a truly unpleasant experience. Not that I expected it to be a walk in the park, but I was surprised by how little I enjoyed the process of creating life.
