The Birthplace Doula | Postpartum Support

Hi, Im Janet.
When my first baby was born, I suddenly realised how isolated I was. I had no extended family to help me. My husband worked away for 3 weeks at a time leaving us at home, quietly struggling. We survived of course but I can see all the ways I could have made life easier and happier for us. Planning support in postpartum and asking for help are essential to an easy transition.
Build your confidence as a mother and manage caring for yourself and your babies in the first weeks of arrival.
Many mothers find the transition overwhelming at times and it can be difficult to ask family or friends for help. You were never meant to do all of this alone, we are supposed to be surrounded with helpful hands, kind words and a listening ear.
The Birthplace Doula Postpartum Support
A postpartum doula is someone who provides physical, emotional and informational support to a woman and her family during the postpartum period. Let me help you.
Welcoming new babies is an incredible time.
There are big changes and big feelings.
Ideally we should spend as much time planning the time after our baby arrives as we do for the birth but it’s very common to underestimate the amount of support you’ll need to feel cared for. A postpartum doula can help at any stage of postpartum to make this happen. I can help you.
Not only am I a registered nurse, but I also have extensive multiple birth experience. Let me know how I can help.
As a postpartum doula with extensive multiple birth experience, I can support you in most aspects of life after a baby. Some clients like assistance in planning and preparing food to freeze before their babies arrive and some clients would rather do it themselves but find it difficult with a new baby. Tiredness, broken sleep and maybe a difficult birth are aspects that we may not have accounted fully for.
At The Birthplace Doula, I offer families lactation and baby feeding support, meal planning and prepping, baby care, babywearing support most importantly mother care.

I know you are exhausted after having twins or triplets. Let me help.
I am a registered nurse as well as a Doula. Let me care for your babies while you rest. I also offer overnight care.
Do you need some breastfeeding support with your twins or triplets?
I volunteered with the Australian Breastfeeding Association for 5 years and during this time completed training in breastfeeding education. As a lactation support, I can enhance normal initiation of breastfeeding, help with positioning and supply and identify when extra professional support is needed by an IBCLC.

Do you need some emotional support?
Unexpected emotions can pop up when a baby arrives. Let alone two or more at the same time! It’s the perfect storm of new emotions, huge life changes and hormones. With a background in counselling and communication, I can help to identify those feelings and plan practical measures to help you feel relaxed and supported during this period.
I also offer practical support
You are not expected to do it all. We aren’t meant to. Running a household can suddenly feel impossible with several new babies. Of course, many things can (and should) wait but the practical side of food, laundry and cleaning are jobs that can be completed by someone else. Some clients prefer to cook while I care for the babies while others sit and relax while I prepare a light meal for them.
The Birthplace Doula Postpartum Support
Are you looking for caring support throughout your early mothering period? Plan and prepare for a relaxed and supported postpartum. I offer casual bookings as well as longer term postpartum packages.
